History
The Parker Chamber of Commerce was incorporated on October 19, 1965 and is recognized by the IRS with a 501(c)6 nonprofit tax designation, which specifically encompasses business leagues and chambers of commerce. As such, the Parker Chamber of Commerce is recognized as an "association of persons having some common business interest, the purpose of which is to promote such common interest and not to engage in a regular business of a kind ordinarily carried on for profit." This nonprofit tax status ensures that "no part of a business league's net earnings may inure to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual..." meaning not that we do not have profit, but that all income and "profits" are reinvested in the organization to further its mission.
Chambers of Commerce are business organizations and as such, operate just as any other business does. Throughout its lifetime, the Parker Chamber has seen, and even assisted in, many milestones:
- Incoporation of the Town of Parker in May of 1981.
- Growth of the population of the Town of Parker from 5,000 to over 40,000 in just 20 years
- Concurrent with the growth of the population, the growth of the community's premier event, the Parker Country Festival.
- Consistent growth in Chamber membership year after year.
- Growth from a part-time, one person staff, to a permanent staff of five plus seasonal assistance. Meet the Staff.
Governance
The Parker Chamber of Commerce is governed by a 13-member volunteer board, elected each year in October. Each year, approximately one third of the board rotates. This allows for continuity and fresh ideas. Meet the Board Members.
